The 3-day tuna diet is a rapid weight loss program that involves a unique combination of food and canned tuna to lose weight. There are conflicting infos in terms of who developed this program. One of the proponents of this program is Dave Draper, a professional body builder. According to Draper, he always sticks to this diet to prepare his body for competitions.

Although not much is known about the history of the 3-day tuna diet, most experts agree that the program became popular after stories of its success popped up online.

How it Works:

The 3-day tuna diet works by sticking to set breakfast, lunch, and dinner for three days. On the first day, you drink nothing but water and consume tuna fish six times a day. The amount of tuna to eat will vary according to your weight. Draper recommends multiplying your body weight by 1.0 or 1.5 to check how much protein you need according to your body weight.

The Pros and Cons of the 3 Day Tuna Diet

Pro: Rapid Weight Loss

As a rapid weight loss diet, the 3-day tuna diet induces quick weight loss. The combination of certain foods reduces water weight, giving the illusion of rapid weight loss.

Pro: High in Protein

The 3-day tuna diet is high in protein and contains very little to no carbohydrates. The combination of foods is filling. It helps stave off hunger pangs but the program does not eliminate these sensations at all.

Con: Short-term Results

Because the program does not require exercising to lose weight, you will gain all the weight you lost just as quickly. This program does not provide healthy, long-term results.

Con: Restrictive

The 3-day tuna diet is incredibly restrictive. You need to stick to specific types of foods eaten at the right servings to achieve weight loss. If you do not adhere to the menu to a T, you will not lose the maximum amount of weight you expect.
